About Insights Taught, Inc.
Catherine Roach, M.S. Statistics
I believe that people can indeed do what they think they cannot do.
So, I am not discouraged by any fears or limiting beliefs you might bring to me. Instead I clearly see your capacity to learn and support you in this.
I fell in love with mathematics in high school. It had always come easily for me, and so I just kept taking classes. Coming from a family where medicine was a common occupation, I thought that was my path, until I slugged it out in organic chemistry. Thank goodness for that! I dropped the pre-med/math double major ambition and went for math whole-heartedly.
I'm a very practical woman. My junior and senior years of college were uncomfortably restless as the math I learned was farther and farther from applications I could relate to my life. Then, I tried a couple statistics classes and found a foundation for making the theory and the practice come together.
In graduate school, I applied my new found statistical tools to medical environments. (I love it when life finds a way to integrate areas that might seem unrelated!) Wow, what an eye opener! Statistics showed me a form of work that was both mathematical and medical. Of course, we can't stop there. Statistics proved to be my ticket to both understanding and explaining many disciplines.
I spent many wonderful years in industry consulting on project teams. For any given project, a variety of players came to the table, each with our own concerns and ambitions. We all had to develop the best outcome on the shortest timeline possible. I used statistics to bring tangible insights and understanding to the team, which would have been missed.
My mission is to maximize the number of people who learn and understand math and statistics, so that we are all better equipped to make great decisions in life. Math and statistical literacy makes all kinds of everyday decisions easier, from shopping to interpreting news reports to running a business.
